Personal, practicable and rigorous approach

‘Mike Ellerby was appointed on an interim basis to manage Health and Safety Services at the University of Sheffield. Mike’s personable, practicable and rigorous approach to health and safety was extremely helpful at a time when the University was in a period of transition for this key role.

I acted as Head of Safety Services for the University of Sheffield for a six month period. This involved a wide range of activities and skills, including: creating the annual Health and safety report and a Health and Safety Plan for presentation, developing Health and Safety Training courses (and delivering several of these), reviewing the Health and Safety Policy and getting this updated, sitting on several committees (including the Key Risk Review Groups, and the BioSafety Group, etc), dealing with accident and incident investigation and working with other Heads of Department.
